How to dispose of old paint

Paint

When it comes to Junk Removal and Junk hauling we come across this question all the time.

What is the proper way to dispose of old paint?

This a great question and we have some ideas on how to do this. Here at Trash Bandits Junk Removal we strive to do right by the environment and always want to look at every situation through the lens of being environmentally friendly.

Liquid paint cannot be thrown away in regular household trash; it is considered hazardous waste. Many of our customers have asked us how to dispose of old paint, and we put together a couple of options when disposing of liquid paint.

– Liquid latex paint can be hardened using kitty litter, newspaper, or sawdust. Remove lid, add your absorbent, stir it, and let it air dry for about 24- 48hours.

– Large amounts of liquid latex paint, purchase a paint hardener, like Krud Kutter Waste Paint Hardener at a home improvement store for just a few dollars.

Once Latex paint is dried, you can bring it to your local transfer station for disposal. It is no longer considered hazardous waste.

Oil Based paints need to go to a hazardous waste facility.

Remember that one gallon of paint could contaminate up to 250,000 gallons of water if disposed of improperly
